Baseball and softball developments in Dominican Republic
Overview
The Dominican Republic has seen various developments in ball sports. The Dominican Softball Federation (Fedosa) announced the inauguration of a specialized academy for pitchers and catchers in the molinete softball modality at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center. This program, directed by Pedro Franco, is intended to strengthen technical preparation and ensure generational renewal for national teams ahead of the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games.
In professional baseball, MLB-supported clinics have been conducted to foster local talent, including a recent event in San Juan de la Maguana featuring outfielder Esmerlin Valdez Ramírez. Additionally, the National Federation of Professional Ballplayers (FENAPEPRO) continues to advocate for the labor rights of players in the Dominican Professional Baseball League (LIDOM), providing medical and financial assistance to former players.
