Basilicata expands pharmacy-based flu vaccinations and diagnostic services
Regional health officials in Basilicata, led by Health Assessor Cosimo Latronico, announced the rollout of flu vaccinations in community pharmacies, a program the region signed in 2022 before national pilots began. The initiative, presented at a meeting titled “Farmacia dei servizi, il futuro delle vaccinazioni è già qui,” aims to raise the national average of 25% of pharmacies delivering vaccines to a higher regional share.
The plan also formalises pharmacy‑provided diagnostic tests such as ECG, blood‑pressure and cardiac monitoring, with future extensions pending state funding. Telemedicine, antibiotic‑resistance screening and hepatitis‑C screening are slated for inclusion. Although the Ministry’s fund‑allocation decree is still pending, the region will commence operations in September, budgeting just under €500,000 for 2026 and seeking clearer reimbursement models and digital integration with the regional health record.
