Basketball League of Serbia faces season uncertainty due to court injunction

The Basketball League of Serbia (KLS) faces significant uncertainty regarding its 2026/2027 season following a court-ordered injunction. Srećko Otović, President of the Association of KLS Clubs, announced the cancellation of a crucial assembly meeting originally scheduled for August 13, 2026. The meeting was intended to approve the competition calendar, financial plans, and disciplinary regulations necessary for the upcoming season.

Otović alleged that four clubs—KK FMP, KK Dynamic BG, KK Spartak, and KK Zlatibor—obtained an illegal temporary court measure through “criminal means,” which prevents the League from making essential administrative decisions. He warned that this situation could delay or even prevent the season from taking place, causing financial damage to clubs and sponsors.

In response, the four clubs issued a formal warning to Otović, rejecting his claims as “arbitrary, inaccurate, and insulting.” The clubs stated they were simply exercising their legally guaranteed right to judicial protection. They characterized his accusations—specifically that they acted in a “criminal manner” and represented a “terror of the minority over the majority”—as potential criminal defamation and reserved the right to seek civil legal protection for their professional reputation.
