Basque community celebrates National Basque Week in Villa María

The 2026 National Basque Week concluded in Villa María, Argentina, with a large-scale luncheon at the Sociedad Rural grounds. The event brought together more than 1,000 participants from various Basque centers across Argentina, as well as delegates from Brazil, Uruguay, and Peru.

The festivities coincided with the 80th anniversary of the local Basque center, ‘Euzko Etxea’. During the closing ceremony, Mayor Eduardo Accastello presented an institutional plaque to honor the center's eight decades of history, alongside provincial legislators Verónica Navarro Alegre and Alfredo Nigro.

Ibone Bengoetxea Otaolea, the first Vicelehendakari and Counselor for Culture and Language Policy of the Basque Government, attended the event to represent the Basque Government and extend greetings to the community. The week-long celebration focused on preserving cultural traditions, identity, and the historical ties between the Basque Country and Argentina.
