Bastar Dussehra features traditional Nisha Jatra ritual in Chhattisgarh

The historic Bastar Dussehra festival in Chhattisgarh featured the traditional Nisha Jatra ritual during the occasion of Vijayadashami. The ritual involves nightlong worship and special offerings intended to bring peace and prosperity to the region.

Kamal Chandra Bhanj Deo, a member of the former Bastar Royal Family, noted that the Nisha Jatra follows the 'havan' (sacrificial fire ritual) performed after 'Ashtami'. He explained that while the ritual, which includes a 'bali' (sacrificial offering), was once a private and secretive event, it has become more inclusive in the current democratic era.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai also participated in the festivities by performing the traditional worship of arms and offering prayers to Goddess Bhagwati. In a statement, the Chief Minister emphasized that the festival celebrates the victory of righteousness, truth, and justice.
