Batam authorities implement drainage repairs to mitigate flooding
Authorities in Batam are intensifying efforts to mitigate flooding through extensive drainage and infrastructure improvements. BP Batam has addressed 29 flood-prone points by repairing drainage systems, working both independently and in collaboration with the Batam City Government.
Li Claudia Chandra, Deputy Head of BP Batam, has conducted field inspections to evaluate the effectiveness of these projects. Key sites under review include the S. Parman Street drainage in Tanjung Piayu, which has reached 63 percent physical progress, as well as drainage systems near RS Graha Hermine in Batu Aji and the Muka Kuning spillway.
In addition to flood prevention, officials are planning the installation of public street lighting along Jalan Laksamana Bintan, specifically from Simpang Pollux to Simpang Telkom, to improve nighttime safety. Officials emphasized that infrastructure improvements must prioritize the daily comfort of residents and called for community cooperation in maintaining environmental cleanliness to ensure drainage systems function optimally.
