Batam infrastructure and budget development

Authorities in Batam are focusing on infrastructure improvements and fiscal planning to enhance public services and economic stability.

Initial efforts centered on flood mitigation through extensive drainage repairs and infrastructure upgrades. BP Batam and the Batam City Government addressed 29 flood-prone areas, including projects in Tanjung Piayu, Batu Aji, and Muka Kuning. Officials also planned for improved nighttime safety via new street lighting installations.

Subsequent developments involved the 2026 regional budget, which prioritized welfare, public service, and fiscal transparency. The administration aimed to increase local revenue through digitalized taxation and optimized fees while reducing ceremonial and employee expenditures. To support these goals, spending on goods and services was increased to bolster essential operations such as waste management and health services.

Building on these fiscal strategies, Mayor Amsakar Achmad has submitted the 2027 regional budget draft to the Batam DPRD. Valued at Rp4.8 trillion, the proposed budget focuses on five priority areas, including poverty alleviation, social protection, and infrastructure development. Key initiatives within this draft include 0 percent interest rate subsidies for micro-businesses, social assistance for the elderly, and social security coverage for vulnerable workers, such as fishermen and farmers.
