Bath Settlement child found dead in canal; father in custody

The body of six-year-old Orlando Jaikarran was discovered in a canal at Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice, following reports of his disappearance. The child’s remains were found floating in the Sea Dam Canal on a Tuesday morning.

Bharrat Jaikarran, the child’s father, is currently in police custody. According to reports, the father provided information that led investigators to the location where the body was found and has reportedly confessed to the killing. Senior Superintendent Lonsdale Whithrite of the Region Five Regional Command confirmed the discovery.

Prior to the discovery, the child’s grandmother, Dhankumarie Gowkarran, had questioned the father regarding the boy's disappearance. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities await the results of a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
