Manisa authorities implement animal welfare and school security measures

Local authorities in Manisa, Turkey, are implementing various safety and welfare measures across different sectors.

In response to stray animal concerns, the Provincial Animal Protection Board, led by Governor Vahdettin Özkan, is coordinating efforts to balance animal welfare with public safety. Key initiatives include the Manisa Animal Information System (ManisaHBS), the operation of 15 animal shelters with a capacity of 3,195 animals, and the management of natural living areas across 17 districts. Since 2024, officials report that 15,625 dogs have been neutered and 2,459 animals have been adopted.

Simultaneously, security preparations are underway for the 2026-2027 academic year. For the approximately 270,000 students in Manisa, authorities are planning increased patrols by police and gendarmerie, stricter inspections of school shuttle services, and enhanced digital and physical security at school entrances. Efforts also include improving school infrastructure and addressing earthquake risks in educational buildings.
