Bauchi police arrest woman for allegedly killing co-wife
Police in Bauchi State, Nigeria, have arrested 33-year-old Hauwa’u Haruna for the alleged killing of her co-wife, 43-year-old Jamila Adamu. The incident occurred on September 27, 2026, at the Tafawa Balewa Housing Estate.
According to Bauchi State Police Command spokesperson SP Nafiu Habib, preliminary investigations suggest Haruna may have been experiencing hallucinations when she struck Adamu on the forehead with a wooden pestle. The victim lost consciousness and was rushed to the Bauchi Specialist Hospital, where medical staff confirmed her death.
Authorities have seized the pestle as evidence and transferred the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution. The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has expressed condolences to the family and urged the public to seek medical and psychosocial support for individuals exhibiting mental health issues to prevent domestic violence.
