Fatal co-wife dispute in Bauchi State

In Bauchi State, Nigeria, police are investigating a fatal dispute between co-wives at the Tafawa Balewa Housing Estate. On September 27, 2026, 33-year-old Hauwa’u Haruna allegedly struck 43-year-old Jamila Adamu on the forehead with a wooden pestle.

According to the Bauchi State Police Command, Haruna may have been experiencing hallucinations during the incident. Adamu was transported to the Bauchi Specialist Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The victim’s husband was also hospitalized following trauma related to the event.

Authorities have seized the pestle as evidence and transferred the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department for investigation and prosecution. The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has urged the public to seek psychosocial support for mental health issues to prevent domestic violence.
