Bauchi State Governor seeks federal aid for floods and suspends livestock policy

Bauchi State Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has called for urgent intervention from the Federal Government to address climate-related challenges, including flooding and gully erosion, which threaten approximately 1,800 communities across the state. The appeal was made during the commissioning of solar-powered facilities and improved water infrastructure at the Yankari Game Reserve.

Separately, Governor Mohammed has suspended the state’s livestock right-of-way policy following concerns regarding its implementation. The Governor accepted responsibility for the poor enforcement of the policy, which was intended to prevent violent clashes between herders and farmers. He noted that inadequate stakeholder sensitization and the improper use of chemicals to clear routes were significant issues, and he has called for a review involving farmers' associations, traditional institutions, and security agencies.
