Reutlingen roof fire destroys historic Altstadt building
A major fire erupted in the early hours of Sunday in the Altstadt of Reutlingen, igniting the roof of a three‑storey residential building on Kanzleistraße. Five residents, aged 23 to 61, were evacuated unharmed, and two occupants of the adjacent house were warned and also escaped safely. Firefighters deployed 110 personnel and 24 vehicles, but the dense historic layout hampered operations. The blaze fully consumed the roof and rendered the dwelling uninhabitable, with temporary accommodation arranged for the occupants. One firefighter required medical treatment for circulatory problems during the effort. The incident is being investigated by police and criminal‑tech specialists; the cause remains unknown. Damage is estimated at around €250,000, and a police‑deployed drone was used to document the scene.
