Bavarian volunteer firefighters honored for decades of service

Volunteer fire brigades in Bavaria celebrated long‑service members at two separate ceremonies. In Oberleiterbach, Nikolaus Amon and Hans Kropp received the gold Vereins­ehrennadel after 55 years of active duty, joining a ceremony that also recognised the brigade’s 885 member‑years and highlighted the volunteer fire service’s role beyond firefighting. Local officials, including the mayor and county representatives, presented the awards.

In the district of Mitterdorf, the 47th state‑wide honours ceremony presented fire‑service medals for 25, 40 and 50 years of active duty. Recipients such as Richard Bräu, Michael Simml junior, Harald Hecht and Sebastian Gabler were recognized by the deputy county administrator and the Bavarian State Minister of the Interior and Integration. Both events underscored the community’s appreciation for decades of voluntary fire protection work in rural Bavaria.
