Bay of Bengal low pressure triggers heavy rain alerts across India

A low-pressure system has formed over the North Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas near the Bangladesh coast, triggering widespread weather warnings across eastern and central India.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued various alerts, including red, orange, and yellow warnings for several states. In Odisha, a red warning was issued for Mayurbhanj, with extremely heavy rainfall predicted. Other districts such as Kalahandi and Kandhamal also face high risks. Heavy to very heavy rains are expected in Chhattisgarh, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and parts of West Bengal.

In South India, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are bracing for moderate to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. Coastal areas in Andhra Pradesh may experience wind speeds between 50 and 60 km/h. West Bengal is also seeing increased activity, with heavy rain forecasts for districts like Purulia, Jhargram, and the Medinipur region.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the North and Central Bay of Bengal due to rough sea conditions expected to persist for at least 48 hours.
