Bay of Bengal low-pressure area to bring heavy rain to Sri Lanka and India
A low-pressure area developing over the southeastern Bay of Bengal is expected to bring increased rainfall to Sri Lanka and parts of India, specifically Tamil Nadu.
In Sri Lanka, heavy rainfall between 100-150 mm is anticipated in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, and Southern provinces. The Department of Meteorology has advised the general public, including naval and fishing communities, to monitor weather bulletins. Thundershowers may bring localized strong winds and lightning, while misty conditions are expected in the early morning hours in certain provinces. Marine conditions may become very rough with gusty winds reaching 60-70 kmph during storms.
In Tamil Nadu, India, the Regional Meteorological Centre predicts heavy rain starting Thursday, with a wider spread of wet weather expected by Friday. Heavy rainfall and winds up to 50 kmph are forecast for hill areas such as Coimbatore, Tirunelveli, and the Nilgiris. By Friday, the rainfall is expected to expand across several districts, including Erode, Salem, Dharmapuri, and the Cauvery delta regions.
