Bay of Bengal low-pressure system may trigger rainfall in Odisha
A cyclonic circulation approaching the Andaman Sea is expected to trigger a low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal around October 13. While weather models show divergence regarding the system's exact strength and path, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) indicates the system will likely move west-northwestward toward the north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh coasts.
The development of the system may lead to increased rainfall and thunderstorm activity across parts of Odisha, particularly in coastal districts. Although some models, such as the US National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP), suggest the potential for a depression, other forecasts remain uncertain regarding the system's ultimate intensification and trajectory.
In Odisha, the monsoon withdrawal process has begun. Recent thundershower activity in the state capital followed a period of hot and humid weather, attributed to a trough extending from west Assam to Telangana.
