Bay of Bengal low pressure triggers heavy rain in Bangladesh and India

A low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal is triggering widespread rainfall and weather warnings across Bangladesh and West Bengal, India.

In Bangladesh, the Meteorological Department has issued warnings for several divisions, including Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chattogram, and Sylhet, where moderate to heavy rainfall is expected. Coastal regions, including Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Cumilla, Noakhali, Chattogram, and Cox's Bazar, may experience gusty winds reaching speeds of 45 to 60 km/h. River ports in these areas have been advised to maintain a signal number one warning.

In West Bengal, India, the low-pressure system continues to bring rain to South Bengal, with heavy rainfall predicted for Purulia, Bankura, and Bardhaman. North Bengal districts, including Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, and Kalimpong, are also under heavy rain alerts. In Kolkata, cloudy skies and light to moderate showers are expected, accompanied by gusty winds of 30 to 40 km/h, which may lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas.
