Bayamón water main rupture cuts service to over 36,000 residents in Puerto Rico

A rupture in a 48‑inch main pipe in Bayamón halted water service for roughly 36,566 customers in the municipalities of Guaynabo, Caguas, Gurabo, Aguas Buenas, San Lorenzo and Juncos. The break was discovered during a routine inspection and prompted the Autoridad de Acueductos y Alcantarillados (AAA) to declare an operational emergency, mobilising field brigades, technical staff and heavy equipment for excavation and repairs.

AAA chief Luis González Delgado was testifying before the Senate’s Total Commission on the island’s water crisis when the failure was identified. The agency activated emergency protocols, redirected resources and coordinated with local municipalities to mitigate the impact while repairs continued. A second leak was reported on a line along PR‑2, affecting Toa Baja, Toa Alta and Bayamón, extending the outage to additional neighborhoods.
