Baye Modou Fall denied provisional release in Dakar

The Dakar criminal chamber has denied a request for provisional release for Baye Modou Fall, widely known as ‘Boy Djiné’, and six co-defendants. During the hearing, Fall requested temporary freedom on humanitarian and medical grounds, citing a head tumor that requires surgery and alleging he has suffered violence during his detention.

Defense attorney Me Alioune Badara Ndiaye supported the request, arguing that the defendant's rights were violated in prison and noting the failure of prison medical staff to provide his health records. However, the prosecution firmly opposed the release, citing Fall's criminal history and the high risk of flight. The prosecutor warned the court, ‘If you grant him provisional release, you will never see him again.’

Fall and his co-defendants—Ahmadou Ndiaye, Mamadou Lamine Diallo, Bamba Ben Ousmane, Afana Ndiaye, Khadim Lo, and Modou Ndiaye—face charges including criminal conspiracy, robbery with violence, and attempted murder following their arrest in 2023. The case has been postponed, with the trial set to begin on January 26, 2027.
