Senegalese criminal court proceedings in Dakar

Legal proceedings in Dakar involving multiple defendants have seen several requests for provisional release denied by the courts.

In one case, the Dakar criminal chamber rejected a request for temporary freedom for Baye Modou Fall, known as ‘Boy Djiné’, and six co-defendants. Fall requested release on humanitarian and medical grounds, citing a head tumor and alleged violence during detention. The prosecution opposed the request, citing a risk of flight and warning, ‘If you grant him provisional release, you will never see him again.’ The trial for these individuals, facing charges such as criminal conspiracy and robbery with violence, is scheduled for January 26, 2027.

Separately, the Dakar Court of Appeal's indictment chamber rejected provisional release requests for Pape Cheikh Diallo, Djiby Dramé, and Doudou Lamine Dieng. This decision upholds a previous ruling by the Pikine-Guédiawaye High Court. This matter is part of a broader legal proceeding involving 99 individuals. While some charges, such as the intentional transmission of HIV/AIDS, were dismissed in an August 2026 ruling, public prosecutor Saliou Dicko has appealed to have all accused individuals referred to trial.
