Yuji Oda discusses filming injuries at ‘Bayside Shakedown’ event

Actor Yuji Oda participated in a live-streamed event at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government to mark the completion of the film ‘Bayside Shakedown N.E.W. Metropolis’, scheduled for release on September 18. The original outdoor event at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building was canceled due to heavy rain, prompting a shift to a digital broadcast.

During the broadcast, Oda revealed that he required crutches for two months following a difficult filming sequence. He noted that while the footage was ultimately cut because it was deemed too dangerous, the physical toll was significant. Oda also expressed deep emotion while viewing projection mapping of classic series scenes, particularly those featuring the late Chosuke Ikariya, who played Heihachiro Waku.

Reflecting on the franchise's history, Oda discussed his decision to volunteer for an appearance in the ‘Shunji Muroi’ films. He explained that he wanted to ensure the connection between his character, Shunsaku Aoshima, and Muroi remained intact, driven by the desire to avoid the sense of permanent loss he experienced following the passing of Ikariya.
