Bayside Shakedown film franchise updates

Overview

Promotional efforts for the film ‘Bayside Shakedown N.E.W. – Metro-polis Run’ have continued as its September 18 release approaches. A major nationwide campaign includes a large-scale immersive escape game, ‘JR East Escape Game: Bayside Shakedown - Race Through the Yamanote Line!’, organized in collaboration with the National Police Agency and the Metropolitan Police Department. Other activities include ‘Bayside Shakedown THE MUSEUM’ at Ginza Mitsukoshi, an advertisement takeover in Osaka’s Umeda district, and a special display of the series’ iconic green mod coat in Nagoya.

To commemorate the release, Fuji TV will broadcast a special episode of ‘Kono Sekai wa 1-daful’ on September 18. Hosted by Koji Higashino and Shota Watanabe, the program will feature lead Yūji Oda and actress Kayo Noro reviewing ten iconic scenes. Oda, joined by guests including Yugo Kochi and Daisuke Shiba, will share behind-the-scenes stories and express his desire to have worked with the late actor Waku.

Due to rain, the scheduled completion report event featuring Yūji Oda, Shuri, Jin Shirasu, and Miki Mizuno was canceled to prioritize attendee safety. The event was instead held as a live online broadcast from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. During this broadcast, Oda revealed that he required crutches for two months following a difficult filming sequence that was ultimately cut because it was deemed ‘too dangerous’.

Reflecting on the franchise, Oda discussed his decision to volunteer for the ‘Muroi Shinji’ films to ensure the connection between his character, Shunsaku Aoshima, and Muroi remained intact, noting a desire to avoid the sense of permanent loss he experienced following the passing of Chosuke Ikariya.
