Bayside Shakedown series to receive 4K remaster screenings at TOHO Cinemas
To celebrate the success of the latest installment, ‘Bayside Shakedown: N.E.W. Metropolis’, TOHO Cinemas will host a special five-week screening event titled ‘Odoru Theater’ starting October 2. The event will feature previous films from the franchise in 4K digital remaster format across five major cities in Japan, including Tokyo, Sapporo, Nagoya, Osaka, and Fukuoka.
The screening schedule includes the four main theatrical films released weekly, followed by a final week featuring ‘Negotiator Masashichi Mashita’, ‘Suspect Muroi Shinji’, and the recent two-part ‘Muroi Shinji’ films. The latest film has already achieved significant commercial success, surpassing 2.15 billion yen in box office revenue within its first ten days.
Director Katsuyuki Motohiro discussed the evolution of the series, noting how the narrative has expanded from small stories to a larger vision of passing the “ism” of characters like Aoshima and Muroi to a new generation. He emphasized the goal of creating entertainment that can make audiences both laugh and cry, while acknowledging the changing ways audiences consume cinema in the digital age.
