The BBC One crime drama This City Is Ours, often referred to as the ‘Scouse Sopranos’, is returning for a new season following the success of its first installment. The eight-episode series is set in Merseyside and follows a Liverpool-based crime family led by Ronnie Phelan.

The first season centered on the tensions surrounding Phelan’s potential retirement and the struggle for succession between his son, Jamie, and his long-time associate, Michael Kavanagh. The plot involved a cocaine smuggling business and a deal with a Colombian cartel known as the Amigos.

Following a season finale involving a hit-and-run of a Colombian drug lord, the new season explores the resulting ramifications. The character Michael Kavanagh, played by James Nelson-Joyce, attempts to leave the drug trade to be with his partner, Diana, but is drawn back into the Liverpool criminal underworld.
