Kerry‑Lynne Findlay was elected leader of the British Columbia Conservative Party in May 2024 and has said her immediate goal is to win a seat in the provincial legislature, a prerequisite for becoming premier. To trigger a byelection she needs a sitting MLA to resign. Three Conservative MLAs – Lynne Block (West Vancouver‑Capilano), Rosalyn Bird (Prince George‑Valemount) and Ian Paton (Delta South) – have publicly declined to step down, meaning a byelection could be delayed up to a year. Under provincial rules the premier may postpone a byelection for up to six months, and the voting day must be a Saturday no later than 80 days after the chief election officer’s appointment.

Since Findlay took over, the party has undergone a major staff shake‑up. Executive director Angelo Isidorou announced his resignation on amicable terms, and the party estimates that about 50 % of its caucus staff have turned over. Other senior staff, including director of research Dion Weisner, have also been let go. These changes are part of Findlay’s effort to reorganise the party ahead of the next provincial election.
