BC Highway Patrol uses helicopter to catch speeding teen
An 18-year-old driver from Abbotsford was caught speeding on Highway 1 near Coquitlam and Surrey by an RCMP Air 1 helicopter. The driver was traveling at 175 km/h in a 90 km/h zone on October 13.
Following the helicopter's alert, an unmarked BC Highway Patrol “ghost car” pulled the black Cadillac SUV over in Surrey. This incident marks the second time in a single month that the driver has had the vehicle impounded for excessive speeding.
The driver faces several penalties, including a $368 speeding ticket, the costs of towing and a seven-day impoundment, and a potential increase in insurance premiums for at least three years. Additionally, the driver's license is under review, which may lead to a suspension.
