BC Highway Patrol speeding enforcement incidents

Overview

Recent enforcement actions by the BC Highway Patrol have targeted repeat excessive speeding offenders in British Columbia.

In one instance, a 59-year-old driver from Vernon had his vehicle impounded after being clocked at 151 km/h in a 100 km/h zone near Golden. This was the individual’s second impoundment for excessive speeding since summer 2025.

In a separate incident, an 18-year-old driver from Abbotsford was tracked by an RCMP Air 1 helicopter while traveling 175 km/h in a 90 km/h zone near Coquitlam and Surrey. Following the aerial alert, an unmarked BC Highway Patrol vehicle performed the stop. This marked the driver’s second vehicle impoundment for excessive speeding within a single month.
