BC Parks condemns graffiti memorial in Golden Ears Park

BC Parks has labeled a graffiti memorial sprayed on boulders in Golden Ears Provincial Park as an act of vandalism and a “misguided tribute.” The graffiti was discovered near Gold Creek in British Columbia’s Lower Mainland following reports from the public.

A social media video shows the message on the rocks was dated August 4, one day after a man drowned in the Lower Falls area of the creek. The Ministry of Environment and Parks stated that while the event impacted the community, vandalism in protected areas is inappropriate and can harm the natural environment and visitor experience.

Gold Creek is known for dangerous currents that have caused multiple deaths and injuries. Officials are currently evaluating whether it is safe to remove the graffiti or if seasonal water flows will naturally wash it away. The park continues to urge visitors to obey warning signs and leave natural features undisturbed.
