BEAC launches SYSTAC2 payment system for CEMAC zone

The Bank of Central African States (BEAC) has launched SYSTAC2, a new interbank payment system for the CEMAC zone. Operational since August 3, 2026, the platform replaces a system that had been in use since 2007.

Built on the international ISO 20022 standard, the new infrastructure is designed to centralize and automate various financial operations, including transfers, direct debits, checks, and card payments. The upgrade aims to improve data quality, increase transaction security, and reduce processing times for banks and customers across the six member nations.

The architecture consists of three main modules: automated clearing, a dispute management module, and a future real-time payment module. While the real-time payment component is not yet active, its eventual integration is intended to further modernize the region's financial ecosystem and support the growing demand for digital and mobile payments.
