BEAC SYSTAC2 payment system launch

Overview

The Bank of Central African States (BEAC) has launched SYSTAC2, a new interbank payment system for the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC) zone. Operational as of August 3, 2026, the platform replaces a system that had been in use since 2007.

Built on the international ISO 20022 standard, the new infrastructure is designed to centralize and automate financial operations such as transfers, direct debits, checks, and card payments. The upgrade aims to improve data quality, increase transaction security, and reduce processing times for banks and customers across member nations including Cameroon, Gabon, Congo, Chad, the Central African Republic, and Equatorial Guinea.

The modular architecture of SYSTAC2 is intended to address limitations of the previous system regarding cybersecurity, electronic currency growth, and mobile money integration. While the system currently features automated clearing and dispute management modules, it is designed to eventually support real-time, instant payments to further modernize the region’s financial ecosystem.
