Bežanijska kosa apartment fire leads to building evacuation

A fire broke out in an apartment on Bežanijska kosa in Belgrade after a cigarette left unattended on a ground-floor terrace ignited belongings. The incident occurred around 3:00 PM in Nikola Dobrović Street.

A 50-year-old man sustained burns to both hands and cuts to his right arm while attempting to extinguish the flames, during which glass shattered. His 76-year-old mother was present but escaped without visible injuries. Both residents declined medical assistance from emergency services.

Due to thick smoke spreading through the building's hallways, firefighters evacuated all residents of the building as a precaution. Firefighters successfully localized the fire, preventing it from spreading to other floors or neighboring apartments. Authorities have issued an appeal for citizens to exercise extreme caution with cigarettes and open flames.
