Bear captured in Goyvren village following frequent sightings
A bear has been captured in the village of Goyvren, located in the Devin region, following weeks of frequent appearances near residential homes. Mayor Snezhana Chavdarova reported that the animal is believed to be one of two young bears that have been entering the village since mid-September in search of food.
The captured bear was transported to the Kormisosh State Forestry. A specialized commission will determine the next steps for the animal. To address the ongoing issue, seven additional traps—five step traps and two cage traps—have been deployed and are being monitored via cameras.
The situation prompted a meeting on October 6 involving local residents and officials, including Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Prof. Dr. Krum Nedelkov, the head of the Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water Smolyan Ekaterina Gadjeva, and the executive director of the Executive Forest Agency Stoyan Toshev. Previous incidents included bears attacking a poultry coop and destroying 21 chickens. Patrol teams consisting of forestry officials, police, and environmental inspectors have been active in the area.
