Bear sightings prompt safety alerts in Fuji and Hokkaido, Japan

Local residents in Fuji City, Yamanashi Prefecture, reported seeing two bears, likely a mother and cub, near the south side of the Fuji North Foot Park baseball field on the morning of July 10. No injuries were reported. The city’s agriculture and forestry department issued a warning via the disaster‑prevention radio and, together with members of a local hunting association, began patrolling the area.

In Asahikawa, Hokkaido, a bear entered a beekeeping facility on July 12, breaking one honey‑comb box and leaving debris about 100 metres from the nearest house. Police, municipal staff and two hunters responded, and police patrols continue to monitor the vicinity, urging people and farm workers to stay vigilant.
