Bears attack tourist tent near Lokorsko, Bulgaria
Two bears attacked a tent containing tourists overnight in a forested area near the village of Lokorsko, located in the Novi Iskar district of Sofia. The incident occurred in the Dragunata area, approximately one kilometer past the end of the paved road.
Despite the shock and stress caused by the sudden attack, the tourists reportedly escaped without serious injuries. Local authorities and the Mayor of Lokorsko, Tsvetelina Gavrilova, have issued warnings to residents and hikers to exercise extreme caution when camping or hiking in the southern slopes of the Stara Planina mountain range.
Experts and officials advise that camping outside of officially designated zones poses significant risks. Safety recommendations include storing all food, drinks, and organic waste far away from tents to avoid attracting wildlife with scents, and maintaining composure by avoiding sudden movements or running if an encounter occurs.
