Bear enters Poiana Brașov hotel as staff say 112 deemed it a non‑emergency
On the night of 22 May, a brown bear forced its way into a hotel in the mountain resort of Poiana Brașov, Romania. Surveillance footage shows the animal opening the entrance door, climbing the stairs and attempting to open another door inside the building.
Hotel staff repeatedly called the national emergency number 112 for assistance. Operators replied that a bear in a hotel “is not an emergency” and advised the staff to contact the local police instead. Left without immediate help, employees had to remain on guard throughout the night to protect guests and colleagues.
The incident follows other recent sightings of bears near hotels in the area, prompting tourism operators to warn that the repeated intrusions could damage the resort’s reputation and discourage families from visiting. Local authorities have been urged to implement measures to prevent further wildlife incursions.
