Beatrice Venezi blames minister Giuli for politically driven dismissal from Venice’s La Fenice

Former La Fenice director Beatrice Venezi said she would not return to the Atreju role, claiming the superintendent failed to prepare her arrival despite a contract being in place. She accused Culture Minister Giuli of staying silent for seven months and suggested the ministry might have issued the press release announcing her dismissal.

Venezi argued the union protests were triggered by her perceived political stance, stating that if she had been left‑leaning she would not have faced backlash. She reported no support from the foundation or the ministry, hired three lawyers for labor, civil and criminal cases, and cited extensive media attacks over seven months.

She also mentioned pressure from local officials, including mayor Brugnaro, urging her to stay, and highlighted that the superintendent denied a formal contract, while the board had nonetheless ratified her appointment.
