Beatrice Venezi La Fenice dispute

Overview

In July 2026 former La Fenice music director Beatrice Venezi continued to assert that her dismissal was politically motivated and that the Ministry of Culture remained silent while unions framed protests around her perceived stance. She maintained that the superintendent failed to honor her contract and that she had engaged lawyers for labour, civil and criminal matters.

In a statement on 31 July 2026 she described herself as a “free artist,” rejected political interpretations of her decisions, and said she wants to “build, not destroy,” focusing on artistic freedom and new work abroad while “forgetting Venice.”
