Beautify Malawi Trust aids returnees from South Africa

The Beautify Malawi (BEAM) Trust, founded by First Lady Gertrude Mutharika, donated food and non‑food items worth K100 million to 1,000 Malawians who recently returned from South Africa after xenophobic attacks. The aid package, including duvets, sugar, soap, soya pieces, orange juice and flour, was handed over at Joyce Chitsulo Stadium in Mwanza by BEAM Trust chairperson Dingiswayo Jere, who said the First Lady was concerned about the plight of the returnees.

Chief Secretary to the Government Justin Saidi urged the returnees to stay in Malawi and use their skills for the country's development. The Department of Disaster Management Affairs reported that 41,976 Malawians have been repatriated from South Africa so far, part of a larger wave of over 53,000 people displaced by anti‑immigrant operations in the region.
