Beaver reintroduction project aims to combat drought in Utah

In the United States, researchers from Utah State University have implemented a beaver reintroduction project on the Price River to combat the effects of drought and ecosystem degradation. Initiated in 2019 by graduate student Emma Doden and a team of experts, the project aims to utilize beavers as a keystone species to restore the landscape.

By building dams, beavers alter water flow, slow runoff, and create essential habitats such as ponds and wetlands. These features provide refuge for fish and amphibians during dry periods, improve water quality, and help the soil retain nutrients. Additionally, the presence of these habitats can significantly reduce the risk of large-scale wildfires in the region.
