Beca Rita Cetina scholarship payments begin in Mexico

Payments for the Beca Rita Cetina scholarship for secondary school students are scheduled to begin this week and will run through October 16. Deposits will be distributed based on the first letter of the cardholder's surname via Banco del Bienestar.

The scholarship provides 1,900 pesos bimonthly per family with at least one secondary student, plus an additional 700 pesos for each additional student in the same family. President Claudia Sheinbaum defended the program, stating that merit-based scholarships for high-achieving students can create inequality, as students face different socioeconomic conditions, such as food insecurity, which impact learning.

Informational assemblies are being held at basic education campuses to assist families, particularly those with students transitioning between school levels. A virtual assembly is scheduled for October 23 at 7:00 pm to address questions. The next registration period for new applicants will run from October 26 to November 6 through the official government website.
