Mexican student welfare scholarship registration

Overview

Mexico has announced registration timelines and tentative payment schedules for various welfare scholarship programs for the 2026-2027 school year. In early September, the government detailed the Beca Rita Cetina scholarship for students in public primary and secondary education. Registration for this program is scheduled to occur online from October 2 to October 15, 2026, requiring applicants to use a Llave MX digital identity account. Other welfare programs, including Beca Benito Juárez, Jóvenes Escribiendo el Futuro, and the Beca de Transporte Gertrudis Bocanegra, have registration windows set for late September 2026.

As of mid-October, the disbursement phase for the Rita Cetina scholarship for secondary school students has commenced. Payments are being distributed via Banco del Bienestar through October 16, with deposits scheduled based on the first letter of the cardholder’s surname. The program provides 1,900 pesos bimonthly per family with at least one secondary student, plus an additional 700 pesos for each additional student in the same family. President Claudia Sheinbaum defended the program, noting that merit-based scholarships can create inequality because socioeconomic factors like food insecurity impact learning.

To assist with the process, the Secretary of Education in Michoacán, Patricia Flores Anguiano, announced informative assemblies across 6,930 schools. A virtual assembly is scheduled for October 23 to address questions. In Baja California, the government announced that results for the Jóvenes Becados (JOBEC) program, which provides 2,000 pesos for high schoolers and 2,500 pesos for university students, will be released on October 26. Additionally, the next registration period for the federal Rita Cetina Scholarship is set to run from October 26 to November 6, 2026.
