North Macedonia and Kosovo face political shifts and student protests

In North Macedonia, Albanian students are protesting for the right to take the jurisprudence exam entirely in the Albanian language. Justice Minister Jeton Shasivari proposed a model where 12 subjects could be taken in Albanian and two in Macedonian with translators. However, student leaders, including Mevlan Ademi, have rejected this as an incomplete solution, demanding full linguistic rights for all parts of the exam. The Ministry of Justice plans to consult with the Venice Commission regarding these proposed changes.

In Kosovo, the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) is undergoing a leadership transition. Following reports of Bedri Hamza's resignation, the party clarified that while he intends to step down when internal elections are called, no official decision has been made yet. Vlora Çitaku has been named acting chairperson to lead the party through this period and prepare for upcoming internal elections.
