Beetaloo Basin gas production scheduled to begin next month

Gas production from Australia’s Beetaloo shale basin in the Northern Territory is scheduled to begin next month. Initial production is expected to reach 37 million cubic meters, with companies Tamboran Resources and Beetaloo Energy directing the first gas to Darwin to secure local supply.

The basin is estimated to hold approximately 500 trillion cubic feet of gas. Industry analysts suggest the development could potentially add 9% to Australia’s liquefied natural gas export capacity. The Northern Territory government views the project as a way to establish the region as a significant LNG production hub.

However, the development faces opposition from environmental groups. Rising Tide has organized efforts to pressure ANZ, noting it is the only major bank that has not yet ruled out financing the North to East Australia Pipeline (NEAP), which would be required to transport gas from the basin to Gladstone for export.
