In the Beira Baixa region, authorities have reported 74.33 million euros in damages resulting from storm Kristin. Of this amount, 57.34 million euros in aid has already been approved to support reconstruction efforts across eight municipalities. The Sertã municipality has requested the highest amount at 23.78 million euros, while Idanha-a-Nova has had 23.01 million euros validated.

Funding for these repairs is being managed through the Municipal Emergency Fund (FEM), which can cover up to 60% of public reconstruction costs. The remaining 40% is expected to be provided via a credit line from the European Investment Bank (EIB).

However, some regional leaders have expressed dissatisfaction with these funding levels. Jorge Vala, president of the Leiria Intermunicipal Community, described the 60% maximum support as ‘manifestly insufficient,’ noting that it will place significant pressure on municipal treasuries. There are calls for the Assembly of the Republic to consider increasing FEM support to 85% or 100% to better assist affected territories.
