Japan implements various sustainability and smart technology initiatives
Various Japanese organizations are implementing initiatives to promote sustainability and address labor challenges.
In Okayama, Daiya Industry Co., Ltd. conducted a smart agriculture lesson at the Okayama Prefectural Agricultural College. Thirty students tested assistive suits designed to reduce physical strain during heavy labor, such as carrying fertilizer or weeding. Approximately 96.7% of participants reported feeling the functional benefits of the suits.
In the retail sector, Beisia has partnered with Too Good To Go Japan to launch a food loss reduction initiative. Starting September 28, three Beisia locations in Tokyo and Saitama will offer ‘Surprise Bags’ via the app. These bags contain surplus items like bread and deli goods, sold at approximately half the usual price to prevent food waste.
Additionally, the Ministry of the Environment and the J.League have launched the ‘Clothing Collection Battle.’ This initiative involves six professional soccer clubs, including Mito Hollyhock, which will host clothing collection booths at home games to encourage the reuse and recycling of garments among fans.
