Retailers expand Too Good To Go food waste partnerships
Overview
Retailers in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Belgium, and Japan are expanding partnerships with the food waste application Too Good To Go to mitigate food loss.
In the United Kingdom and Ireland, Marks & Spencer is rolling out a program to sell surplus bakery items through ‘Surprise Bags’ at significant discounts. The UK initiative covers 350 stores, while the Irish rollout includes eight locations, supporting a corporate goal to halve food waste by 2030.
In Japan, the retailer Beisia launched its food loss reduction initiative in Tokyo and Saitama on September 28, 2026. Three locations—Beisia Ome Inter, Beisia Town Shin-Sayama, and Beisia Hidaka Mall—offer ‘surprise bags’ containing assortments of bread, side dishes, groceries, and desserts. Customers can purchase approximately 1,000 yen worth of goods for 500 yen.
In Belgium, Delhaize has partnered with Too Good To Go to increase consumer awareness regarding the food supply chain. This collaboration follows research indicating that while 98% of Belgians acknowledge the environmental impact of food waste, only one in six are aware that the average person wastes between 31 and 40 kg of food annually. To address this gap, the partners will release short video interviews featuring individuals from the food chain to illustrate the resources and labor involved in food production.
