Belgian children lead museum tours and join farm summer camps
Fourteen children who completed a summer training program at the Museum aan de IJzer in Diksmuide acted as "peace ambassadors" on 16 July 2026, guiding visitors through the historic site and explaining its collections. A second session is planned for 20 August, giving the young guides another opportunity to share the museum’s history with the public.
At the Den Diepen Boomgaard organic farm in Grimbergen, a two‑week summer camp for children aged 4‑10 introduced activities such as soap‑making, paper‑making and hands‑on gardening. Organiser Mira Banen said, “Kinderen leren hier waardevolle dingen voor later,” emphasizing lessons on nature care, recycling and composting that participants can pass on to family and friends.
