Belgian consortium selected for 1.5 billion euro Brussels Ring project

A consortium of Belgian companies, known as ‘R0Q’, has been selected to undertake major infrastructure works on the Brussels Ring in the Zaventem zone. The consortium includes construction firms Jan De Nul, Besix, Stadsbader, and Willemen, alongside investor I4B.

The project involves the complete demolition and renewal of traffic interchanges in Machelen and Sint-Stevens-Woluwe, connecting to the E19 and E40 motorways. The goal is to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion, and increase green spaces. Key components include the construction of a new parallel road for local traffic, a renovation of the Kraainem on-and-off ramp complex, and upgrades to the motorway itself and surrounding local roads and cycling connections.

Scheduled to begin in 2027, this phase of the works is expected to last six years with an estimated cost of 1.5 billion euros. Under the contract with the Flemish government, the private consortium will manage the construction, financing, and maintenance of the road infrastructure for a period of thirty years.
