Belgian employers face significant talent shortages
A survey by SD Worx conducted in June 2026 among 250 large Belgian companies reveals significant labor market challenges. Approximately 62% of employers with at least 250 employees report difficulty finding talent, while 51% struggle to retain existing staff.
To address these shortages, many employers are looking toward flexible compensation as a strategic tool. For 40% of respondents, attracting and retaining talent is the primary motivation for implementing such schemes. Flexible benefits allow employees to choose perks that hold personal value, such as extra vacation days, bicycles, mobility options, or insurance, potentially increasing attractiveness without necessarily raising the total employment budget.
Despite this potential, a significant portion of large employers has yet to fully explore flexible pay. About 14% are unfamiliar with the concept, and 22% intend to investigate the possibilities in the future.
